As the Desert Hearts Festival returns to Playa Ponderosa in Flagstaff, Arizona, from July 3 to 7, this year’s edition places a definitive emphasis on female talent within the American electronic scene. Known for its off-grid aesthetic, communal values, and genre-fluid programming, the festival positions itself as a critical space for emerging and veteran artists beyond the mainstream.
Among the most anticipated sets are five performances by U.S.-based women DJs, each bringing a unique sonic identity to the lineup.
Confirmed set times include:
- Lindsey Herbert – Saturday, July 5 at 4:00 AM
- Nala – Saturday, July 5 at 8:00 PM
- Mary Droppinz – Sunday, July 6 at 8:00 PM
- DJ Minx (B2B Kevin Knapp) – Sunday, July 6 at 10:00 PM
- Tara Brooks – Monday, July 7 at 4:00 AM
From Lindsey Herbert’s immersive techno to Mary Droppinz’s genre-blending, high-energy sound, these artists reflect a broader momentum in the U.S. toward greater representation of women in spaces historically dominated by men. Their appearances also speak to the festival’s curatorial intent: to offer not only a party, but a platform.
Founded in California and now rooted in Arizona, Desert Hearts has long stood apart from the commercial festival circuit. Rather than headliners and pyrotechnics, it favors shared experiences, late-night experimentation, and intimate crowd-artist connections. The inclusion of DJ Minx, a Detroit legend with over three decades in the game, alongside newer voices like Nala and Tara Brooks, underscores the event’s commitment to showcasing depth and diversity across generations.
This year’s festival features over 40 acts across five days, weaving together minimal, house, techno, and psychedelic textures, all within a forested setting designed to evoke both celebration and introspection.
