Brooklyn’s underground scene gained a powerful new addition as Refuge NYC officially opened its doors on September 21. The venue launched with a doubleheader Sunday program that set the tone for its mission: high-fidelity sound, uncompromising lineups, and a pure connection to the dancefloor.

The day began with a Sunday Day Preview that ran from 3pm to 10pm, where Dutch selector Antal delivered a deep, eclectic journey through house and disco. He was joined by New York’s own twin-sister duo Analog Soul, longtime favorites of the city’s underground, and the Razor-N-Tape crew, who energized the floor with their signature disco edits and vinyl selections. Together, they created an atmosphere that balanced local identity with global vision.

As night fell, the energy shifted into a more intimate space for the Sunday Night session from 11pm to 4am, led by Swedish artist DJ Seinfeld. Known for blending lo-fi textures with emotional grooves, Seinfeld guided the crowd through a set that blurred genres and kept the floor moving into the early hours. The performance captured the essence of Refuge: unfiltered, inclusive, and fully devoted to the dance.

The opening also showcased the venue’s standout featuring, its REX analog sound system, a 10-foot, four-point design by legendary engineer Craig “Shorty” Bernabeu. With acoustics by Al Fierstein and creative direction from nightlife veteran Gregory Homs, every detail of Refuge was felt on the floor, from the shock-absorbing maple wood beneath dancers’ feet to the soaring 35-foot ceilings and preserved industrial architecture.

With a 500-person capacity and zero residential restrictions, Refuge has positioned itself as a new cornerstone for New York nightlife. Phones were discouraged, no VIP areas or bottle service were in sight—just music, community, and freedom.

The debut proved that Refuge is more than another club opening: it’s a statement of intent. And with marathon sessions and lineups featuring names like Floorplan, Paranoid London, DJ Holographic, Stacey Pullen, and Kenny Larkin still to come, Brooklyn’s latest dance sanctuary has already made its mark.
