Spotify reached 640 million monthly active users, according to the latest data, marking a growth of 38 million compared to the previous year, according to the company’s Q2 report. This solidifies its position as the global leader in music streaming, currently holding about 31.7% of the worldwide market, ahead of Apple Music and Amazon Music.
Out of the total users, 252 million are Premium subscribers, showing an increase of 16 million since 2023. Regionally, Spotify’s user distribution is approximately 39% in the Americas (18% in North America, 22% in Latin America), 27% in Europe, and the rest split across Asia-Pacific and other regions.
Women currently represent between 44% and 56% of Spotify’s global user base, depending on region and age demographic. Yet, only about 23% of streams feature female artists or mixed-gender acts. Female listeners consume an average of 31.9% of content from women-led acts.
Editorial playlists like Dance Rising, EDM Hits, and Electronic Rising have seen substantial growth since 2024, especially among young, urban female listeners drawn to genres like house, techno, and EDM.
A growing listener base and increasingly refined algorithms give American women DJs real opportunities to be discovered through high-impact playlists.
With nearly 42% of users identifying as female, there’s a strong demand for authentic, diverse voices in electronic music.
New features like Marquee, Showcase, and the AI DJ tool empower artists to take control of their visibility and fan engagement within the app.
Spotify has set a bold target of reaching 1 billion users by the end of the decade. More than just a streaming platform, it’s becoming a cultural compass for what’s next in music. And for women in the electronic space, that future is already underway.
